BioWales, held annually in the Wales Millennium Centre, is the leading event for the life sciences sector in Wales and brings together industry experts and life sciences investors not just from the home ground but also from the international network interested in the innovation and development growing in Wales, the only nation with a £100 million dedicated Life Sciences Fund.
A selection of speakers including Professor Chris McGuigan (Chair of Life Sciences Hub Wales), Edwina Hart (Minister for Economy, Science and Transport, Welsh Government), Paul van Arkel (Head of Corporate Strategy & Health Care Systems, Novarts International AG) held insightful presentations on industry news and innovative developments encouraging novel collaborations around supply chain opportunities, investment, growth and development.
A common thread of discussion was the collaboration between the highly concentrated life science UK professionals and international partners and the potential of mutually beneficial growth this holds. The Gala Dinner at the end of the first conference day saw HE Nicola Clase (Swedish Ambassador to the UK since 2010) speak of the ongoing collaboration between Sweden and the UK, and the wealth of knowledge and expertise shared between these highly experienced networks.
Complementing the series of presentations and workshops, BioWales held a two day exhibition hosting both its close neighbours such as Cardiff Medicentre, Life Science Hub Wales, Welsh Wound Innovation Centre, Swansea, Cardiff and South Wales Universities as well as international organisations such as Novartis, AdB Serotec and Simbec-Orion Group.
For the team at Patricell, this was an opportunity to meet with existing clients based at the nearby Welsh Universities, and with established and emerging companies to explore how our laboratory products and services can aid in maximising the utilisation of the investment funding to ensure the continuation of this fantastic level of research.
Whether you are looking to attend as a delegate, exhibitor or simply to keep up to date with the life science industry news, BioWales offers an efficient platform for networking either via the Novartis supported partnering meeting software, the 44 organisations exhibition or via the various specific talks, BioWales is a date to be marked in every life science professional’s diary.
